Job Description

The Office of the Auditor General Zimbabwe (OAG), serves as the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of Zimbabwe. The OAG aims to be the center of excellence in providing auditing services. Upholding values of commitment, respect, empathy, accountability, teamwork, and integrity, the OAG stays relevant by staying abreast of global trends in finance and auditing.

We produce informative and timely reports with practical recommendations, demonstrating transparency by having their financial statements audited by external chartered accountants.

The Office of the Auditor General Zimbabwe (OAG) is seeking a highly competent Deputy Director of Public Relations to join their dynamic team. As the Deputy Director of Public Relations, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the Office’s communication strategy, operational plans, and stakeholder engagement.

This role reports to the Director Legal/Corporate Secretary and requires strong skills in public relations and communications.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Deputy Director of Public Relations will have the following responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and supervise the development and implementation of the communication and public relations strategy consistent with the OAG’s mandate and corporate plans.
  • Identify and engage with stakeholders of the Office in collaboration with the Deputy Auditor-General Administration.
  • Manage the development of the department’s annual plan and budget for effective communication aligned with the Office’s strategy.
  • Articulate the OAG’s mandate, vision, mission, and values to stakeholders.
  • Oversee the creation, maintenance, and monitoring of a strong corporate image using tools such as logo, colors, and type fonts.
  • Develop and disseminate information, education, and communication (IEC) materials across various channels, including print, electronic, and social media.
  • Establish processes to collect feedback from stakeholders and take actions to strengthen the corporate brand.
  • Develop interventions to promote, protect, and enhance the OAG’s reputation with media houses.
  • Manage engagements between the Office and media to foster a cordial relationship.
  • Assess media perception through surveys, feedback, and media reports, and analyze trends.
  • Act as a spokesperson to the media with specific approval from the Auditor-General.
  • Oversee and evaluate the effectiveness of media campaigns and coverage.
  • Develop and implement crisis communication strategies to manage organizational crises.
  • Organize press conferences for report submissions and dissemination of audit key findings.
  • Package messages for dissemination through different media channels, ensuring effective media coverage.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the corporate social responsibility strategy and policy.
  • Manage the OAG’s corporate social responsibility programs, corporate sponsorships, advertising, and events.
  • Provide supervisory leadership to the department and implement performance management.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations or an equivalent field.
  • Membership of a recognized professional body would be an added advantage.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a public relations and communications role with a reputable organization.
