Job Description

Akashinga is an innovative nature conservation organization that focuses on creating resilient ecosystems where nature, wildlife, and communities can thrive together. Established in 2017, Akashinga addresses social issues to achieve conservation outcomes and protect millions of acres of rich biodiversity across Africa.

We prioritize gender equality, thriving local communities, and empowering individuals traditionally excluded from frontline and leadership roles. Our female-led conservation efforts have far-reaching positive impacts, from enhancing education and healthcare to eradicating poverty and increasing life expectancy.

Akashinga is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as the Head of Operations Support. In this role, you will assist in managing our two camps located in Hurungwe and Binga. The camps are situated in stunning landscapes, surrounded by diverse wildlife and protected by our rangers. As the Head of Operations Support, you will play a vital role in ensuring the success and positive future of both camps, as well as the well-being of the employees and stakeholders involved.

The Head of Operations Support will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all support activities within the two reserves to enable the Operations team to accomplish their objectives effectively and safely. This role encompasses managing nutrition, infrastructure, habitat, and maintenance supervisors, as well as their respective activities on both sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Co-develop and implement the habitat management aspect of the Reserve Management Plan, including fire management and infrastructure upkeep and construction management.
  • Take overall responsibility for habitat management and infrastructure in the reserves and surrounding areas where Akashinga operates.
  • Ensure routine repairs and maintenance of all reserve equipment and infrastructure to ensure the safety of staff and visitors and the efficient operation of the reserves.
  • Coordinate planned routine maintenance and repairs of all reserve vehicles and other machinery.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen, including providing healthy vegan food for staff members.
  • Manage the operations support management team by identifying staffing needs, conducting training, providing mentorship, and organizing safety and well-being activities.
  • Collaborate with the HR Manager to oversee Human Resources Management, including conducting performance reviews for key staff.
  • Maintain and enforce operational security at all times.
  • Compile regular reports and incident reports as required.
  • Oversee the operations support budget following Akashinga’s financial standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements, including legislative regulations and the Akashinga Code of Conduct.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Recognized qualification in Ecological, Environment, or Wildlife Management.
  • Practical experience in the management of nature reserves.
  • A degree in Business Administration is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Clean driver’s license.

Competencies:

  • High adaptability to changing circumstances.
  • Genuine interest in employee well-being and conservation.
  • Upholding high ethical standards.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Strong team player.

How to Apply:

Interested candidates should submit their CVs no later than the 5th of June 2024. We look forward to reviewing your application and appreciate your interest in joining the Akashinga team.
